How HeroDIY Works

A voice-powered AI assistant that walks you through diagnosing and resolving home repair issues — or tells you exactly when and how to call a professional.

Three Steps to Resolution

1

Tell us what's happening

Open HeroDIY on any phone or computer — no app download needed, it runs in your browser. Describe the issue in your own words. Leaking faucet? AC not cooling? Strange noise from the water heater? Just talk. The AI listens to everything before responding. No interruptions, no "press 1 for plumbing." You describe the problem the way you see it.

2

Get a guided diagnosis

The AI asks you targeted questions — one at a time — to narrow down exactly what's wrong. It walks you through checking specific things: is the breaker tripped? Is there water under the unit? Do you hear a clicking sound or a hum? Each answer moves the diagnosis forward. Think of it as having a knowledgeable friend on the phone who has seen this problem a thousand times and knows exactly what to ask.

3

Fix it yourself or know when to call

If the issue is something you can safely handle, the AI guides you through the repair step by step. If it requires a licensed professional, the session does not just say "call a plumber" — it gives you a script: what to say when you call, what questions to ask about pricing, and what to tell the technician when they arrive so you don't waste time or money explaining from scratch.

What a Session Looks Like

Here's a real example of how a typical session plays out.

Scenario: Your AC stopped cooling

You:

"My AC is running but it's not cooling the house. It was fine yesterday."

HeroDIY:

"Got it. Let's figure this out. First — is the outdoor unit running? Go outside and check if you can hear or see the fan spinning."

You:

"Yeah, the fan is spinning but it sounds different. Kind of a clicking noise."

HeroDIY:

"That clicking with no cooling usually points to the compressor struggling. Before we go further — check the air filter inside. A clogged filter can cause this. Pull it out and hold it up to a light. Can you see through it?"

The session continues until the issue is resolved or HeroDIY determines a licensed professional is needed — in which case you receive a detailed summary and a script for making the call.

Built-In Safety at Every Step

Every session is governed by our three-zone safety framework. The AI continuously assesses risk level — from routine fixes you can handle yourself, to situations where the only right answer is to stop and call a licensed professional immediately. There are no gray areas.

What HeroDIY Is Not

X

Not a replacement for licensed professionals. When the job requires a licensed electrician, plumber, or HVAC technician, we tell you. We never encourage work that should be done by a professional.

X

Not a contractor dispatch service. We do not send anyone to your home. We help you understand your problem so you can make an informed decision about what to do next.

X

Not a general-purpose chatbot. HeroDIY only handles home repair topics. Ask about the weather and it will politely redirect you. It is purpose-built for one thing and does that one thing well.
